update: I am a dummy, I did get far enough into checkout to enter an email address before deciding against it
marketing
@emily to get your e-mail address and send you spam. this is the latest anti-feature of web capitalism.
marketing
@crashglasshouses That's why they collect the email addresses in the first place, but why send that particular email instead of, like, actual spam? Spam is annoying, but it's generally not "email individually addressed to you" level of creepy.
marketing
@crashglasshouses I may have replied to the guy (the reply-to was an apparently real person, some VP-of-marketing type) with a large amount of snark including the sentence "Do you also follow people home from your physical stores, just in case they forgot to buy a chair while they were there?"
Suddenly regretting this because it might give them ideas.
marketing
@emily wasting their time will make them go away
marketing
@crashglasshouses like from the planet? that'd be neat
marketing
@emily if you do it hard enough, yes. :3
marketing
(but still that's creepy as heck why would you do that)
